Functional model of a small hydro power plant control unit

This semester work deals with realization of functional model of control unit for hydroelectric power station. Main task of this work is realization rectifier with active power factor correction, which is used instead of commonly used frequency converter. Control unit is designed for asynchronous motor in generator operation with self-excitation. The propeller turbine is used as propulsion. Theoretical part includes theory of the PFC converters. Practical part includes calculations for components of PFC converter and assembly of DPS PFC converter.

The thesis deals with the problem of optimizing an existing unused turbine for use in a different location than the designed. The goal is to reduce the flow through the turbine by changing the runner geometry while increasing the head, with the least possible decrease in efficiency. The individual modifications of the hydraulic shape are based on the knowledge of the basic relations for the designing of hydrodynamic machines. Numerical fluid mechanics is a tool for validating the effect of individual adjustments. The hydraulic design of the new runner and draft tube of the axial propeller turbine with a fixed guide vanes is performed. Based on the CFD simulation, a universal turbine characteristic with a new hydraulic shape is compiled.

This paper deals with realization of functional model of control unit for micro hydropower plant. Main task of this work is realization rectifier with active power factor correction,which is used instead of commonly used frequency converter. The propeller turbine is used as propulsion.To convert rectified voltage from PFC rectifier to mains will be used solar inverter.
